Here we share short stories about a wide variety of individual philatelic items. The PDF contains background information on the topic of the cover or stamp, which could be highlighted in an exhibit together with the respective item (whether in Thematic, Open Philately, or Social Philately). At times you may wonder if the connections between the item and the topic are not rather far-fetched, at other times they will be more obvious. How far one wishes to go in this respect – perhaps even in one’s own exhibit – is entirely up to each individual. For us, it is simply great fun to let our imagination wander in discovering links between an item and its theme.

Often overlooked at the roadside, chicory reveals itself as a remarkably versatile plant. Its blossoms follow a strict rhythm of light and attract inconspicuous yet efficient pollinators. Since antiquity, it has shaped medicine, food culture, and even the history of chicory coffee. Beyond its practical uses, it stands as a poetic symbol of transience and remembrance – and philately has honored it on postage stamps.
