Here we tell short stories centred on a wide variety of individual philatelic items. The PDF provides background information on the theme of each item or stamp, exploring aspects that could be developed in an exhibit — whether in Thematic Philately, Open Philately, or Social Philately. At times, you may wonder whether the connections between item and theme are somewhat far-fetched; at other times, they will appear more obvious. How far one chooses to pursue such connections — possibly in a separate exhibit — is ultimately a personal decision. For us, however, it is always great fun to let our imagination roam when exploring certain relationships between item and theme.

TODAY

The postcard presented here from 1909 is postally significant because of the absence of a postage stamp. Despite the lack of franking, it was properly cancelled, conveyed, and delivered without any surcharge. This indicates an exceptional case of personal postage privilege in private, handwritten correspondence. The princely alliance seal of the sender, María de la Paz of Bourbon, thus replaced the postage stamp as a means of postal legitimisation.
