MärchenPosta Hofgeismar 2025 – A Look Back

From July 25 to 27, 2025, we participated in the MärchenPosta event in Hofgeismar with exhibition pieces and the promotional booth of our three associations: ÖSVLPH, the ArGe Medicine, and Pharmacy. It was a weekend full of encounters, impressions, conversations – and a few quiet emotions that will stay with us for a long time.

We arrived on Friday and began setting up. As usual, our interactive philatelic hospital and the creative Stampart exhibition were part of our display. Thanks to the generous setup time before the event officially opened, we were able to assemble our booth and exhibits at a relaxed pace. It was a pleasure to work attentively and carefully, rather than feeling rushed. We were particularly proud of the active participation of several members whose contributions were featured in the exhibition – a wonderful testament to our shared commitment.

In the evening, we naturally gravitated toward a cozy beer garden. Over cool drinks, good food, and a relaxed atmosphere, we ended the first day in friendly company. There was laughter, chatting, and even some early philosophizing – a wonderful beginning that built anticipation for the days ahead.

Saturday kicked off with a true highlight

Prof. Dr. Wennig presented the second part of his philatelically illustrated history of chemistry. The talk was not only informative but also charming and entertaining – once again demonstrating how vibrant philately can be.

Afterward, we held our annual general meeting. Of our roughly 50 members, 11 made the – in some cases long – journey to attend. These personal encounters are priceless for our association. The direct exchange, shared laughter, and collective reflection noticeably strengthen our sense of community. The meeting minutes will be published in the next Philatelia Medica and will also be available in the members-only section of our website.

Knight Dietrich then took us on a guided tour of the Pharmacy Museum.

The Stone House – A Postmark with New Meaning

One particularly memorable moment was the tour of the Pharmacy Museum in the Stone House. With enthusiasm and deep knowledge, we were guided through the historical rooms – an experience for both mind and heart. For many of us, the special postmark featuring the Stone House – and bearing our association’s name – gained a new, very personal meaning. What was previously “just” a beautiful design is now linked to a vivid memory – and will surely hold a special place in our collections.

Postcrossing – A “Chance” also for Philately

Our booth sparked many good conversations – with both familiar faces and new visitors. Sadly, familiar concerns came up often: the lack of young members, growing fatigue among existing ones. But there were also uplifting moments – like the youth booth at the wine festival just outside the hall, where children were introduced to letters and mail through play. The first postcrossers also stopped by – curious, open, and full of questions. The idea of linking postcrossing more closely with traditional philately was well received. Our philatelic hospital and Stampart display were particularly popular in this context – proof that new approaches can truly make an impact.

A Fairytale Encounter – and a Quiet Farewell

Sunday featured the traditional big collectors’ exchange day – many collectors from the region took the opportunity to trade, browse, and talk shop. Dealers were also present, offering plenty to delight any philatelic heart.

A particularly enchanting moment: Knight Dietrich and Sleeping Beauty paid the event a visit and greeted us officially – a charming scene that fit perfectly with the spirit of the MärchenPosta.

At the same time, there was a moment of silence: the ArGe Fairy Tales, Literature, and Theatre announced its dissolution – exactly 50 years after its founding. As no successor could be found, this difficult step had to be taken. A quiet farewell that left us reflective – and reminded us of the impermanence of our shared projects.

Wrapping Up – With Ideas in Toww

In the afternoon, the exhibition winners were announced. The judging was done by the public – each participant received a certificate and a small gift. No one had to leave disappointed.

And as so often happens after an inspiring gathering, we returned home with something that can’t be cataloged. No cover, no special postmark – “just” a few new ideas. Still unorganized, a bit unruly perhaps, but with that suspicious sparkle in the eye that some already view as provocation. Because existing order is sacred to some – especially those who have long since decided how philately should work. I’m not so sure about that. And that’s exactly what I enjoy so much.

Our heartfelt thanks go to Ulli, Lutz, and the entire team from the Hofgeismar Stamp Club, who made these unforgettable days possible with great commitment, heart, and organizational talent. It was a joy to be part of it!
