Georg Emil Palade was a Romanian-American cell biologist and co-founder of modern cell biology. Using electron microscopy, he discovered ribosomes and described the transport pathway of proteins in the cell. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1974 for his work.
