Marie-Paule Molitor-Peffer (1929-1999) was a Luxembourg doctor known for her commitment to sex education and relationship counselling. As president of ‘Planning Family’, she actively campaigned for sex education in the press and on the radio until the 1990s. She also campaigned against sexual abuse, acted as an expert witness in court proceedings and trained police officers in dealing with women who had been raped. Molitor-Peffer and her husband Georges Molitor died in a car accident on 9 September 1999.

The rubbing alcohol ‘DIANA with menthol’ is a tonic that has been used for over 125 years for muscle tension and cooling, among other things. In 1897, a pharmacist at the ‘Diana Pharmacy’ developed the versatile remedy, which was entered in the Austrian trade mark register in 1907, making DIANA one of the oldest trade marks in Austria. The logo with the Roman goddess Diana, who symbolises vitality and closeness to nature, adorns the product. The brand has belonged to the Austrian family business Unipack GmbH since 2014.

Nikolai Semashko (1874-1949) was the Soviet Union’s first health commissioner and fundamentally shaped the Soviet healthcare system. He developed the ‘Semashko model’, which provided free, state-funded healthcare for all and focussed on prevention and hygiene. His approach had a lasting impact on the Soviet healthcare system and influenced international healthcare systems.

The water in the healing pools of Sarvar bubbles up from a depth of 1,200 metres at a temperature of 43 °C, the second from a depth of 2,000 metres at a temperature of 83 °C. Sodium chloride, hydrogen carbonate, iodine, bromine, fluorine and numerous trace elements play an important role in the latter. The water is said to help alleviate respiratory diseases, rehabilitation from trauma after accidents and chronic inflammatory and degenerative joint diseases.

Ivan Pavlov (1849-1936) was a Russian physiologist and behavioural scientist known for his experiments on classical conditioning. In his studies with dogs, he discovered that animals can be conditioned to repeated stimuli, such as the sound of a bell that triggers salivation. These ‘Pavlovian reflexes’ became fundamental to behavioural research and the understanding of learning processes. Pavlov’s work had a lasting influence on psychology and neuroscience worldwide.
