Titel: The phenomenon of sleep
Referent: Daniela M. Vogt Weisenhorn
Summary: The saying of the Greek philosopher Aristotle “Sleep has the purpose of serving the preservation of living beings” is still fully justified. For centuries, sleep was thought to be a passive state of the brain. Only recently has there been sleep research, to which we owe the insight that sleeping represents a defined functional state of our brain. Something about the phenomenon of sleep and associated diseases will be discussed in this lecture.
