Ardem Patapoutian (born 1967 in Beirut) is a Lebanese-American molecular biologist and neuroscientist at Scripps Research in La Jolla, California of Armenian descent. In 2021, he received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, together with David Julius, for his work in the field of research on the molecular basis of sensory perception – in particular, the perception of heat and touch.

Dolores Aleu Riera (April 7, 1857 in Barcelona – February 19, 1913) was a noted Spanish medical doctor. She was the first woman in Spain to be licensed in medicine and the second woman in the country to earn a Doctor of Medicine degree. Her thesis, presented on October 6 1882, was titled “On the need to set the hygienic and moral education of women on a new course”. In it, she criticized discrimination against women.
